The next book I have chosen to read for my free choice is
Pigs in Heaven by Barbara Kingsolver. For those of you who read my previous posts, you will know that I read my first Kingsolver novel as my fiction choice. This book is the sequel to the book I originally read (
The Bean Trees). From what I have read about this novel, it figures to be a little more exciting, with more action and adventure rather than a slow, internal conflict. You see, the first book was about the journey that Taylor Greer takes emotionally. However in the second novel, there seems to be a true adventure and external conflict. I think this will make the book more enjoyable to read. While I appreciate the depth and symbolic nature of
The Bean Trees, I think that more conflict on a physical side will make for a more exciting read. I am very happy I am able to read this novel and look forward to it greatly. The main conflict that is going to happen is that Taylor may lose custody of Turtle so she goes on an adventure in order to escape the people trying to take Turtle away. It will probably be a fantastic book.
Following up the book you have already read with the sequel is the best way to keep the ideas fresh in your mind. I normally try to do this as well because it allows you to compare the two books as I see you are doing here. It also allows you to make predictions based off of what it being said in the book before. You are able to compare the styles, if they change, of the author from both books and decide which is a better piece of literature. As you predict it will be a good book, I am interested to see if your prediction is true
ReplyDeleteI think it is cool how you chose to read a sequl to your book. Though I have not read either of the books I figure from the plots you will enjoy this one more than the first one. One thing I was wondering was if they included foreshadowing in the first book to what the second book would entail, and was the first book somewhat of a cliff hanger, and needed a sequel, or was it more of the author just felt like writing another one. I hope you enjoy the sequel!
